You are listening to a live recording from Hot House (Chicago) in May of 2007. Nick plays baritone, tenor, alto and soprano saxophones, flute, clarinet, bass clarinet and bassoon.
Nick Moran was born in 1972 and grew up in and around Detroit, Michigan. After studying classical saxophone, flute and clarinet in college Nick settled in Chicago where he currently lives. Nick has performed with the Illinois Philharmonic, Elgin Symphony, Rockford Symphony, Kalamazoo Symphony, Macomb Symphony and has been a member of over fifty pit orchestras. He has performed with the Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey, Jimmy Dorsey, Lawrence Welk, and Nelson Riddle orchestras as well as having performed with Lou Rawls, Jimmy Heath, James Moody, Snooky Young, Joey DeFrancesco, Ray Anderson, Aretha Franklin, Phil Woods, Houston Pearson, Mel Torme, The Temptations, Marvin Stamm, The O'Jays, Wayne Newton, Bob Berg and Dick Hyman.
Nick maintains a busy schedule and is proud to perform with several ensembles in Chicago. Some of the groups he can be heard with are M13, the Bill Porter Orchestra, Brian O'Hern and the Model Citizens, Ted Hogarth's Mulligan Mosaics Big Band, Burgess Gardner's Well Oiled Jazz Machine, the Ian Torres Big Band and Hector Silveira's Orchestra. Check out the "links" page on this site for more on these groups. Nick is currently composing and arranging for an eight piece group that will be based on jazz adaptions of the music of Alban Berg.
